The game is a wave-based shoot ‘em up that is comparable to Zone of the Enders. Astro Bot Rescue Mission is referenced a second time on the PlayStation Game Disc Artefact, which has a fictional Astro Bot game label on it and a very low-polygon version of Astro on it. In the PlayStation Labo area are two Bots in VR with a third listening to music, with two microphones behind him. The mics reference 2004’s Singstar for the PS2, developed by London Studio. Singstar was a very popular franchise on the PS2, and came packed with blue and red microphones, as referenced in the Labo area.

These trophies serve as milestones‚ encouraging exploration and ensuring you experience the game’s diverse environments and mechanics. The Astro Playroom Trophy System offers a total of 46 trophies‚ divided into Bronze‚ Silver‚ Gold‚ and Platinum categories.
The core quest in Astro’s Playroom is to retrieve the four main artefacts across four different, diverse levels. Each level is split into four key areas, two of which are reliant on a feature of the DualSense, all are mandatory to complete the levels. As soon as I encountered the first of these, I knew I would have serious issues with this game when it comes to my disability. I opted to enter Memory Meadow first, a charming area with fields aplenty. The mandatory interaction area in this level required the use of the touchpad, namely to flick repeatedly in the direction you wish to travel to move the ball. I managed fine at first, but the muscles in my hand rapidly began to exhaust before I had even completed the area.
This is the R-C01 from the cover of Air Combat, the first game in the Ace Combat series released on the PS1 in 1995 and developed by Namco. Air Combat was originally an arcade game released in 1993, but the port was scrapped and a new game was made using the same name. Jump onto the thin ledge behind the tree and head left to the Everybody’s Golf VR easter egg. From here you can jump back down to cloud blowing the rotating platform, with the Piposaru container nearby. To do this, continue through the level until you get to the part where you have to ride on a PS1 / PS1 controller cloud.

Break through the ice and light the explosive enemy to reveal this artifact. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – After another couple of checkpoints, you’ll reach a series of second colored rooms. In the red room with the spinning mines, you can find this puzzle piece rotating along between two of them.
These collectibles are hidden across levels‚ requiring exploration and attention to detail. There are 24 artifacts (6 in each world) and 40 puzzle pieces spread across four worlds. Collecting these not only earns trophies but also unlocks special content. These trophies encourage players to thoroughly explore each level‚ making the journey to 100% completion both rewarding and engaging. Astro once again controls really well in this game although our adorable robot friend doesn’t have as deep a move set as a certain plumber does. Astro can jump, punch enemies, and perform a spin attack but that’s about it for the main move set.

I have never seen any of the so called ‘issues’ they keep talking about while playing – all I see is a generally better, more detailed image quality, that often far surpasses other upscalers. The difference is often smaller when standing still, and far greater when moving. @Froggydarren I have been watching DF reviews for a long time now, and still find their framerate analysis to be a god send as anything much less than locked 60fps makes me feel ill – literally.
It’s good when you say other critically acclaimed games aren’t doing it well. That’s not to say all games aren’t doing this, as Returnal and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 used the controller capabilities to the max. That is basically it, a game that even small kids (6y) can play and enjoy.

Artifact 1/2 “PS Move Sharpshooter”– After jumping up through the two slanted glass panels, jump to the left to an area with a wooden box with a diamond on it. There is a built-in progress tracker on PS5 trophies so you can easily keep track how many you found already. Astro’s Playroom is a free game, pre-installed to every PlayStation 5 console. Whilst initially awestruck by the game, it didn’t take very long to see why Sony’s catchy ‘For the Players’ tagline is an admirable slogan built on a history of gaming icons. This game is incredibly well-made; the care put into it is visible in every corner; but as it is it was not made for people like me.
From seeing bot versions of iconic characters (like Kratos and Solid Snake) to gathering old peripherals and consoles, the journey is full of “I recognize that! ” flashes that punctuate the lighthearted and approachable gameplay. First, he was a newsman in the Technology department, over time he began to get involved in games and journalism, as well as edit and supervise the Technology newsroom.

This references the Castlevania series, specifically 1997’s Symphony of the Night on PS1, by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo. Nearby the Horizon easter egg is an island with a bot making a blocky T. The game is about making assets and even entire games from scratch. At the start of GPU Jungle, check along the left-hand side between two trees for a lower section with four Bots with various weapons on their backs huddled around a campfire.
Combined with the hardware it’s bundled on, it’s something very special indeed – and one of the best launch titles I can remember in an age. It deserves a place among the greats though – Astro’s Playroom has the coherence, character and abundance of ideas, executed with real clarity, of the very best platformers. A tech demo shouldn’t have this much of a following, but that’s the power of Team Asobi’s Astro’s Playroom. The Astro Bots made their debut with the PlayStation VR tech demo, The Playroom. They showcased the capabilities of the VR device and left an impression on the higher-ups at Sony. This spun off into their own full VR action-platformer game, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, which got a ton of critical praise and even the Best VR/AR Game award at the 2018 Game Awards.
The game serves as a showcase for the DualSense controller’s features and functionality. We awarded the game a 9/10 in our Astro’s Playroom PS5 review, describing it as a “love letter to PlayStation”. Astro’s Playroom was the final game released by Japan Studio before their dissolution in April 2021. Team Asobi was formally spun-off into an independent studio within Sony’s PlayStation Studios in June 2021.

At SC88 COM , Astro’s Playroom is a fairly straightforward platforming game. You play as a cute little robot named Astro, exploring four different worlds set in a universe that appears to exist inside of a computer. You’ll collect coins, stomp on enemies, and poke around in search of secrets. There are boss battles and one-off sequences, like one where you have to pilot a small spaceship through dangerous caverns, or another where you use a bow to pick off faraway enemies. Discover hidden bots by solving riddles and performing specific actions‚ like punching bushes.
